Bonnygate:

A short walk around the courtyard brings you to the door into the hallway. To the left is a spacious 5'0'' bedroom, to the front is the twin bedroom. Turn right and you pass the bathroom and then on into the smart kitchen/dining room. Next, through the kitchen is the sitting room with Freeserve TV and DVD. French doors open out onto the patio and private enclosed garden.

Fairfax and Cholmeley cottages were originally used by the workers of the old Brandsby Estate and they date from around the 1900's. Bonnygate cottage is a one- level stable convertion.The cottages have been modernised to a very good standard and all have pleasant enclosed and private gardens and patios with South facing views.

The estate was created in 1750 by Francis Cholmeley, heir to the Whitby shipping family, when he married a daughter of the Fairfax family of Gilling Castle and built the present farm house for himself and his bride.

The architecture of much of this estate is almost identical to many buildings previously associated with the Cholmeleys throughout the Whitby area because Francis had brought with him to Brandsby many of the original craftmen and stonemasons.

Unfortunately the estate has succombed to the the modern age and all that remains of it is the little hamlet of Warren House Farm. We have a small flock of breeding sheep and our horses which graze the fields around the holiday cottages.
